Join Outdoor UW for a NEW course in the Outdoor Explorer Series (OES): Birding & Animal Tracking! Learn and practice some new skills that will make you more comfortable and excited for your next adventure!
In this OES: Birding and Tracking class, you'll learn how to identify local bird species through observation, sound recognition, and field guide techniques. You'll also discover how to track animals by reading signs such as footprints, scat, and other environmental clues. The class will cover basic bird behavior, migration patterns, and habitat preferences, as well as the principles of animal tracking, helping you understand wildlife interactions in their natural environments. This class enhances your connection with nature and improves your observational skills.
Upon completion of this class, participants will:
- Understand how to survive with and without tools
- Basic ideas of survival techniques and bushcraft skills
- Find ways to practice some of these skills
